CPM in influencer marketing

What is CPM in influencer marketing?

CPM (cost per mille, or cost per thousand impressions) is the price a brand pays for every 1,000 views or impressions a piece of content generates.

What does CPM mean when pricing a creator deal?

Some deals are priced on a CPM basis instead of a flat fee — the creator is paid based on actual views delivered, which shifts some of the performance risk from the brand onto the creator.

What should creators watch out for with CPM-based deals?

  • Agree on a minimum guaranteed payment alongside the CPM rate, so a low-performing post doesn’t leave you paid very little for real work.
  • Confirm which analytics source (platform-native vs. brand-reported) determines the final view count used for payment.
  • Ask for the CPM rate and payment timeline in writing before content goes live.
