Scope creep

What is scope creep?

Scope creep is when a brand keeps adding extra deliverables, revisions, or requirements to a collaboration after it has already been agreed and priced.

What does scope creep mean in influencer marketing?

It usually shows up as "just one more thing" requests — an extra story, another round of edits, a second platform — that were never in the original brief or rate.

What should creators watch out for with scope creep?

  • List every deliverable and revision round explicitly in the brief before starting work, so anything beyond it is visibly a new ask.
  • Set a price for extra deliverables upfront, so additional requests come with an additional invoice rather than being absorbed for free.
  • Put a cap on revision rounds in the contract — unlimited revisions is one of the most common sources of scope creep.
